WPWR Channel 60 - 20 Minute Workout (Part 1, 1984)

Here's Part 1 of some nice wholesome entertainment - the exercise show, 20 Minute Workout. 8-) Not a complete episode unfortunately, but almost. We are missing the opening and most of the ending credits.

This aired on WFLD Channel 32 originally, but moved to WPWR Channel 60 after a year or two.

Are they on a rotating platform? It can't just be the cameras moving, right? I wonder if they got dizzy spinning around like that for so long?

This aired on local Chicago TV in early August 1984.

I am reminded of a joke a stand-up comic once said about having a Right-arm of Steel after watching Buns of Steel. I cannot remember the joke though...

Ah, the mid 80's...that short period of time when Americans took the suggestion performing mild exercise to heart.

OMG, I remember this show from Channel 32. Never thought I'd see it again.

Ah yes, 20 Minute Workout. That is a rotating platform. These were produced by Ron Harris who also did the Aerobicise tapes (same premise and rotating platform, skimpier outfits).

She sounds like a Canadian attempting a southern accent.

"I got a twenty minute workout fer ya honey!" 8-D

And I am reminded of Rick Moranis' character in Ghostbusters, telling the hottie who lived next door that he'd taped this show and played it back on fast forward so it only took ten minutes.

Wormser, haven't you had enough?

That sing-songy shmuthern accent forces me to mute it. Mentally supply voice of Kelly LeBrock, and viola!

The instructor here is named Bess Motta. She is not Canadian but
actually a native of Los Angeles.

Perhaps the inspiration for the Linda Coalmeyer excercise show on SportsChannel? :')

I remember this being on WUTV/(pre-Fox)29 here in Buffalo at Noon and 6:00... then they moved it to 9:00 and Noon. In Fall '84, it moved to WIVB/4 at 5:30 AM.

Anyway, whatever became of Bess and her fellow workout crew(Arlaine Wright, Nicole Nardini, Holly Butler, Anne Schumanner)?

Thanks; this brings back fond memories.

LORL! She looks like she's going to have a baby at any minute doing those squating exercises. LORL!!

I can see why guys would be interested in this kind of stuff. :) The exercises kind of look like sexual poses.

One more thing... would you or anyone here have access to a "PM Magazine" episode in which Bess and Holly were interviewed for a piece called "America's Workout Women"? It took place in 1984, and aired here in Western NY(on WGRZ) the Thursday Night before Memorial Day. I couldn't see it because of a school band concert I was performing in at the time.

Thanks so much.

OMG. I used to do this everyday of the week! That's when I was 18 and I looked just like her. I just couldn't keep up these days. 26 years does something to your body. I'm still in ok shape, but those were the days!

Uh, duh, uh....(brief pause to take care of business) Well, now wasn't that interesting? (sounding not at all like Graham Chapman)
